After the great outcome of bands we had last June at Startup Band’s 1st event at Zinc Innovation Campus in Amman, we teamed up with Riseup Summit 2015 to hold the second Startup Band challenge/battle, this time in the capital of underground musical talents; Cairo, Egypt!
With the goal to shed light on hidden talents and bring together discouraged musicians who play alone in their rooms, Startup Band challenges musical creatives to mix & match with complete strangers to form bands with the mission to come up with 1 original song, all in 48 hours. The bands would then perform their songs live on stage and the best one will be crowned the 1st place winner.
Happy new year our dear musicians! We hope that this year will be full of achievements and success for all of you.
The new year is a time to reflect on the changes we want (or need) to make and resolve to follow through on those changes. Many people write their New Year’s resolutions, but only few actually commit to them and achieve their goals. You might find it easy to write them down, but the hard part is to actually follow through with what you planned. However, if you want to be a successful musician, there are no shortcuts but hard work.

MIDI stands for (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) and the main idea behind MIDI controllers was to create one instrument that gives the musician endless possibilities of tunes. All you need is a MIDI controller (an instrument with piano style keys) and a laptop or tablet that has virtual instrument samples stored on it, and you can play any tune you want using the controller.
I don’t think that anyone of us can spend a day without listening to music, I definitely can’t! Music has become a very essential part of our lives, and with today’s technology it is so easy to listen to you favorite songs. So many genres, styles, and melodies are just one click away on our smartphones, tablets or laptops.
Music itself however is very old. It has existed for at least 55,000 years, and some studies show that it probably started in Africa and then evolved to be a fundamental constituent of our daily lives.
Which amplifier should I buy? One question that we all asked ourselves as bassists, and the answer was never easy to find. In this article, I am going to explain all you need to know before buying your bass amplifier and what to look for exactly.
I’m going to sum things up in four main points you should consider before buying your bass amplifier. In my previous article “Your Guide for Buying Guitar Amplifier” I discussed similar topics but in more depth, feel free to check it.
Audio mixers are considered one of the main and most important units in music production and recording. They are usually used in concerts, radio, music production, and even in home studios. There is a huge variety of mixers out there ,therefore, the first thing you have to do is to determine exactly what you need the mixer for, and then you can choose the right one accordingly. Mixers require extra units to reach optimum performance such as monitors, amplifiers, and cords. So you have to keep that in mind before buying yours.
In this short article, I will try my best to cover the information you need to know before buying a mixer.
I didn’t spend much time researching about different types of guitar amplifiers and to be honest, if you’re a beginner guitarist, usually you will end up buying the amplifier that comes with the beginner bundle. That’s not actually a bad thing at the beginning, it’s perfectly fine for the beginner exercises and training. However, later on you will probably need to invest in an amplifier that suits your playing style perfectly.
Bass is one of the most important instrument in any musical content, it’s the instrument that glues all the other instruments together. Without bass in a song, the audio will sound very flat and empty. A well-trained bassist can add amazing low-end solos which enrich and improve the song.
In this short article, I will try to explain the necessary information you need to know to be able to choose the right bass for you.
